Solo & Ensemble Contest

Recognizing Individual Work

Solo & Ensemble Contest is an opportunity for students to put in individual work on their instrument with performances that allow them to challenge and grow in their skill level.

Solo & Ensemble Contests are held in the spring.  Students in Freshman Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Symphony are given the opportunity to select musical performances from a specific list of repertoire for solo instrument or small ensemble (typically five players or less).

Students will have some in-class time to work on these performances.  But most of the rehearsal time will be held before and after school.

In the spring, students will perform their works during the adjudicated chamber music festival at Blue Springs High School.  Students with the highest rankings in performance will then be offered the opportunity to take their work to District level solo and ensemble contest.  And top performances at District contest allow players to move onto the State Contest level.

The achievements for students in these contests can help motivate them to continually improve their own performance levels.  And the music and repertoire available for these contests vary to match the difficulty of the performance to the player's individual skill levels.
